BICYCLE

Biking through our districts can often be easier and faster than driving. Numerous new bike lanes make the journey between districts easy. The Public Works Department installs and maintains bike routes on City streets. Bike routes may be on-street and designated with signage, or may be separated from the road.

Champaign’s bike routes tie into University of Illinois, Urbana, and Savoy bike routes and Champaign Park District trails. Maps of the bike route system are available at the City of Champaign information desk, 102 North Neil Street, Champaign, Illinois.

The IllinoisDepartment of Transportation

publishes maps of recommended bicycle routes, bike trails, and points of interest for each district of the state.

Maps and other local bike route information can be found on the Champaign County Greenways and Trails web site.

Bike parking is available at loops throughout Downtown, Midtown and Campustown. Covered parking is available in the Hill Street Parking Deck in Downtown at no charge.

For additional convenience, bike repair stations have been installed in Downtown at the Hill Street Parking Deck and Illinois Terminal. Remember that it is illegal to ride your bike on sidewalks in our Champaign Center districts. Walk your bike on the sidewalks!

TAXI

Taking a taxi in Champaign-Urbana is easy. Taxis can use either a meter or zones to determine the rate. Generally rates can be as low as $2/per person to travel within the Campus area and increase the further you are from the city center. For a partial list of local providers visit the City of Champaign's website.
